This is a classic, simple, two-post attached pergola picture used as a patio covering, providing some basic shade and a finished look to the space. Thee white materials nicely match the trim on the house. This is a vinyl pergola with generous spacing between the rafters set atop the beams and then a very tight layer of thinner roof slats that create the bulk of the shade. Trim pieces top off the posts and additional “faux” post pieces on the beam create a unique roof edge on this pergola. Overhang has been reduced as well with the use of simple straight edge slats instead of a full layer of rafters with fancy cut ends.
The type of material you choose really depends on the maintenance you would like to do. Vinyl needs no ongoing touch ups or maintenance. A wood product painted white would be less expensive up front, but would need touch up over the years. In any case, this is a very inexpensive pergola design with the posts attached to the patio flooring eliminating the need to dig and with a simple single layer roof reducing the amount of material needed. The beams and joists are all cut to match in size and shape to create a very balanced, clean look.
